Boston has to be wondering “What if,” as the regular season comes to a close. An injury in the first game to Gordon Hayward knocked half of their big offseason acquisitions out for the season, and knee surgery to the other half has them without the star power necessary to win in the offseason. They’ll be focusing on getting Irving and Hayward healthy for next season, but that doesn’t mean that things are over for Coach Brad Stevens and his scrappy band of role players. Maybe Terry Rozier will be able to deliver a win or two in a seven-game series, but the playoffs this year are more an opportunity for young players like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown to see what the postseason is like and what they need to do to have success there next year.
