RAW Women’s Championship Match

Alexa Bliss (c) vs. Nia Jax

What we learned: We learned here that WrestleMania moments are real and perhaps nobody got more emotional about theirs than Nia Jax, who finally got the big payoff and defeated Alexa Bliss for the RAW Women’s Championship.

The build for this match was done quite well, and even if this wasn’t even close to being the best match of the night, the storytelling was still very good throughout this program. Alexa Bliss, who has turned out to be one of the best things going in the women’s division, has played her heel role to perfection, and the bully storyline was perfect for her.

As for Nia, she came into this WrestleMania with a purpose and she was focused from the start. Before the match officially started, she sent a message by annihilating Mickie James on the outside, and Bliss playing scared was done quite well. I thought we might be in for another squash, but the champion was able to get some offense in and the Twisted Bliss to the floor was solid.

But this was always meant to be Nia’s night, and she dominated most of the match with her power and big size advantage. After showing off that power, she ended things with a big Samoan Drop from the middle rope that looked very good, and the tears began to flow as soon as the 1-2-3 had commenced. She’s been working toward this moment for a long time, and for the big payoff and first title to come at WrestleMania is a big deal. Very happy for her.

What’s next: This rivalry isn’t over by a long shot. As I said, Alexa Bliss has become a major focal point of the women’s division, and before losing the title, she had held it for 223 days. Like many others who lost their titles at WrestleMania, she has her rematch coming, and we’ll likely see that match happen soon. I’m hoping Nia isn’t just a transitional champion but it wouldn’t surprise me to see Carmella jump to Monday nights soon and cash in her Money in the Bank briefcase.
