FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup – April 10, 2018
Welcome into the FanDuel daily fantasy baseball column! We have a big 12 game slate for Monday April 10th so let’s dig right in!
We’ve got a huge slate to get through today, so we won’t dawdle around for too long. The lineup we played last night scored a 144.2 and we had to sweat it out, waiting for Zach Godley to pitch. He was so low owned that his dominant start flew us up the leaderboards and you should have flown by the cash line in 50/50s and maybe even dipped into the tournaments.
This evening’s slate is a very interesting one because the top two pitching options both play tough offenses and are slightly less appealing than normal. It’s a great thing we have some nice middle range options to pivot to and lets us fit in the bats we want.
Starting Pitcher, High End Spend
Patrick Corbin, $9,000
.285(65 for 228), 17.4 strikeout rate
When a pitcher dominates the Rockies and the Dodgers the way Corbin has his first two times on the bump, he’s got my attention for sure. Imagine my glee when I saw he was only $9,000 on FanDuel, which is only the fifth highest price of the slate. Corbin is in San Francisco which is one of the worst hitters park in MLB. So far in 2018, the Giants have a team batting average of .247, an OPS of .676 and a wOBA of .296.
They’re also striking out over 22 percent of the time and Corbin is set up for success tonight. Even though the Giants are a touch better against lefties so far, the matchup doesn’t scare me in the least. There might be some who get scared off because players like Andrew McCutchen and Buster Posey are excellent against lefties. One of the only things that Corbin has working against him is the Giants have hit the sinker well so far in 2018. Still, they are a worse offense than Colorado and Los Angeles, and now Corbin is in AT&T Park instead of Chase Field. I’m really hoping players gravitate elsewhere and Corbin goes underowned one more time.
Also Consider – Jacob DeGrom, $9,600
Mid-Range
Sean Manaea, $8,200
.000(0 for 4), 50.0 strikeout rate
The young lefty is in a pretty solid spot on paper tonight out in Los Angeles. In 135 plate appearances against lefties so far in 2018, the Dodgers have been putrid. The batting average is all the way down at .188, the OPS is .588 and the wOBA is .251. The strikeout rate is up over 25 percent as well. Combine all of that with how Manaea has looked so far and he could dominate tonight. He’s cut way back on his walks, having only given one batter a free pass in 15 2/3 innings. The strikeouts have been respectable for him as well, with 11 so far. He’s only the ninth most expensive pitcher and could easily be in the top five as a points per dollar play.
Also Consider – Carlos Martinez, $8,700
Value
Aaron Sanchez, $6,700
.276(37 for 134), 17.7 strikeout rate
One very cheap risk/reward option stands out above the pack tonight and that is the righty from Toronto. The Orioles have been striking out against righties nearly 30 percent of the time so far this season. They also are hitting under .250, have an OPS under .600 and a wOBA of barely .250. The best part is their lineup is right-handed heavy and that’s the best case scenario for Sanchez. He is worse against lefty hitters and the only power bat that the Orioles have on that side of the platoon is Chris Davis. There’s always risk that the Orioles hit for power but they haven’t done well yet. Sanchez is a great GPP option this evening.
