Josh Allen to Browns rumors becoming louder

The Cleveland Browns have the first-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, and the idea that they’ll select Josh Allen is starting to become common.

In a little more than two weeks, the Browns are going to be on the clock at the NFL Draft. Hopefully, with more than four months to get ready for the moment, general manager John Dorsey confidently calls in his pick. Apparently, that pick might well be Josh Allen, something that would be an incredibly controversial selection.

Allen is one of the top quarterbacks in the draft, but most believe Sam Darnold, Josh Rosen and Baker Mayfield are more polished products. Some scouts have fallen in love with Allen, though, considering his massive arm, sturdy build and unlocked potential.

The problem is that Allen wasn’t good in college. While playing at the University of Wyoming, one would expect Allen to carve up the Mountain West Conference. Instead, Allen completed 56.2 percent of his throws throughout his college career. Looking at the past 20 years, quarterbacks who hit on less than 60 percent of their throws are almost always busts, but Allen is still tantalizing teams.

Cleveland can’t afford to make a mistake in this spot. The Browns have won a single game over the past two seasons under head coach Hue Jackson. Dorsey came in to replace Sashi Brown in December, and has been reworking the roster with trades that brought in Tyrod Taylor, Damarious Randall and Jarvis Landry this offseason.

Cleveland also has the fourth pick in the NFL Draft, perhaps giving it the chance to draft Saquon Barkley. The Browns could also trade back and accumulate more picks, helping to rebuild the team on both sides of the ball.
