19. Drew Doughty

It’s fitting that Drew Doughty is currently rocking the toothless hockey smile, as he didn’t have any teeth when he started playing the game, either. As reported by the Toronto Star, Doughty was given a mini-stick on his first birthday and there was no looking back. He was skating by two years old and playing before the age of four.

Doughty is a trailblazer for the toothless as he does his best to help out his fellow players. In the following clip, Doughty breaks down how to manage a grin like his own:

Calling this a “guide” was a stretch, as he basically only lists three foods that are difficult to eat. It does put into perspective what these athletes are willing to give up for our entertainment, though. NHL players are modern-day gladiators. A few teeth missing from the smile is one thing, but imagine not being able to properly bite into a burger for the rest of your life. It’s almost heartbreaking.

Thank you, Drew, for being you.
