Second Base, High End Spend

Early

Ozzie Albies, $3,600

.750/.750/1.500 with 1 HR in 5 at-bats

It might seem odd to list Albies as the high end spend with the likes of Brian Dozier, Robinson Cano, and Jose Altuve on the slate. That’s how little I believe in Cole and his ability to get this Braves offense out. He hasn’t gotten it going yet this season but the matchup is just too good to pass up. Albies is on the worse side of his splits but that’s not going to make me shy away today.

Main

Zack Cozart, $3,800

N/A

The second baseman for the Angels is always interesting when he’s hitting in front of Mike Trout and Justin Upton. He might be the highest price at his position but he could pay off against a lefty tonight. Cozart is on the better side of his splits and Moore has given up over 50 percent fly balls and hard contact in 2 starts so far. That’s good enough for me to potentially pay the price for Cozart tonight.

Mid-Range

Early

Joey Wendle, $2,600

0 at-bats vs. James Shields

Wendle is a pretty unproven commodity at the major league level but he draws James Shields at a really solid price point. That alone is enough to interest us and Shields has struggled against lefties so far. In five innings pitched against the handedness, lefties are crushing him for a .318 average, .848 OPS and a .373 wOBA. Wendle should be able to make a tidy profit at his price point. Especially if you’re playing GPP, you’ll want to consider him as a pivot as plenty will flock to the other options today.

Main

Josh Harrison, $3,500

.280/.379/.400 with 1 HR in 25 at-bats

Harrison may not be the best hitter ever but he’s pretty solid against lefties these last three seasons. He has an average of .304, an OPS of .824 and a wOBA of .355. Lester has been hit or miss in his first two starts and the Buccos offense is just humming along right now. The Pirates offense hasn’t been as prolific against lefties to this point but Harrison is still well worth considering on this shorter slate. Just in total, the Pirates are in the top five in MLB in runs so far this season.

Value

Early

Jonathan Villar, $2,300

.214/.313/.214 with 0 HR in 14 at-bats

Villar continues to hit for a high average, although his floor will remain low due to his high strikeout rate. He likely won’t hit one out of the yard but he can easily steal some bases off Wainwright if he’s able to get on. Villar’s price is pretty low for how well he’s currently hitting and it just seems to come in spurts with him.

Main

Javier Baez, $2,700

.429/.429/.429 with 0 HR in 7 at-bats

We’ll almost always have some interest in Baez when he’s facing a lefty on the mound and tonight will not be any different. He did just hit two home runs yesterday but he’s in a great spot again today. Baez hits lefties to the tune of a .286 average, an OPS of .835 and a wOBA of .347. The price is finally down to the point where he’s playable and Steven Brault has been tormented by the Cubbies whenever he’s faced them so far.
