The 2018 NHL playoffs are here. In the Western Conference, the Vegas Golden Knights and Los Angeles Kings start their first-round series on Wednesday in Vegas. Check below for full times and channel listings.

The Los Angeles Kings are set to start their Round 1 Stanley Cup playoffs contest against the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday.

After getting hot to end the regular season, the Kings finished with 98 points and the first wild card. But in the slugfest known as the Western Conference, a wild card proved just as grueling to gain as any other spot. It might not have any bearing at all on how difficult a team is going to be in a seven-game series.

Los Angeles narrowly missed out on second or third place in the Pacific Division by three points. The Kings also sport the fewest goals against in the entire league and the best penalty kill as well. Defense and goaltending are key areas they’ve ridden in the past.

In fact, they’ll be aiming for their third Stanley Cup in seven years, with defenseman Drew Doughty and netminder Jonathan Quick marked as essential pieces to those previous titles. Conversely, if they win it all again in 2018, there should be serious talk about this team being in the dynasty category.

Finally, want to know why we don’t believe that only goaltending and defense will propel this team Lord Stanley? Check out the five reasons they will be the ones raising the Cup here.

Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights aren’t going away so easily. We expect this contest to go at least six games. We might even be looking at a seventh, which would be awesome. Much has rightly been said about Vegas in its inaugural year. The Golden Knights won the Pacific Division with 109 points, sat just eighth in goals allowed overall and looked all season like a team with many years of experience.

Though it may not do one single thing great, this team does many things well. Coupled with that, we’re looking forward to seeing how far the Knights will make it through these Stanley Cup playoffs. They have as legit a shot as any team in the Super 16.

Last, we understand that fans not only need a bit more convincing, but want to reaffirm what they already know. To do that, dig into these five reasons why the Golden Knights will be etching their names in silver this season.
