The RB Leipzig and Marseille quarterfinal is the closest of the four draws heading into the second leg. Leipzig took advantage of their home field, winning 1-0, with Timo Werner scoring right before half-time. The second leg moves to France, with both teams believing they can advance.
Marseille drew with Montpellier 0-0 in their game over the weekend. Florian Thauvin missed the first leg with a thigh injury and did not play against Montpellier. Thauvin leads the club with 18 goals but is questionable. If Thavin does not play, Marseille could struggle to generate chances and will be reliant on Dimitri Payet. The former West Ham midfielder has 16 assists in all competitions this season. The Olympians will rely on Valere Germain, Lucas Ocampos, and Morgan Sanson to score goals. The trio has combined for 42 goals in all competitions this season.
Leipzig have struggled domestically as they continue in Europa League. On Sunday, Leipzig were smoked 4-1 by Bayer Leverkusen in the race for a Champions League spot. The Red Bulls will rely on Emil Forsberg and Werner going forward in the second leg. Forsberg has struggled to live up to last season’s title of assist king in the Bundesliga but has played well in Europe. The Swedish playmaker set up Werner for the lone goal in the first leg. Werner has been Leipzig’s best player this season, scoring 19 goals, including seven in Europe, as he uses his pace to cause nightmares for opposing defenses.
