5. The Tough Old-School Guy

Joe is the exact opposite of Karen. After you ask Joe about who he thinks will win the Cup, he shows you the Maple Leafs tattoo on his bicep. A tattoo he gave himself with a knife and some blue ink in a dimly lit basement in the ’70s. He doesn’t say it, but you feel as though he might hurt you tell him you think any team but his is going to win.

Joe likely had a try-out with this team in his younger days. He has been in more hockey fights than you have seen on television in your lifetime. He constantly talks about old-time hockey and isn’t a fan of any of these new flashy players, especially if they come from Russia.

If you are cheering for the same team as Joe, definitely watch the games with him. Joe’s stories will make you feel tough by association. You can swear with him when your team loses and celebrate with him when your team wins. Be careful, though; Joe celebrates by shaking you a little too hard.

Joe is a die-hard. He doesn’t throw it in your face with flags, logos or jerseys, but he bleeds the color of his team. If you differ on teams, maybe steer clear of Joe when celebrating your team’s win.
