1. The ā€œThis is the yearā€ guy

Hello Capitals fans! Here’s your section of the article.

The Caps fan, a.k.a. ā€œThis Is the Yearā€ guy, just knows that this year is the year his team will finally get past the playoff curse. They’re going to make it to the Final and they are going to win. Much like Mrs. Bubble was, the Caps fan is in his or her own little world where for some reason, the Capitals won’t blow a series they should easily win.

The best part about this person is that every year is ā€œthe year.ā€ The heartbreak compiles until you eventually see them break down. They give up all hope, berate their team, the curse, and management. They completely give up. Only to do it all over again the following year.

Here is a heads up to you Capitals fans out there. This may be the closest year you’ve ever had, but it certainly isn’t ā€œthe year.ā€ I’ve heard more of you lately talking about how this is it. It’s not. I’m sorry. (The nice thing about that blanket statement is that it is timeless — you can read this any year and it will be relevant).

Sorry Caps fans.

You now have a definitive guide to all of the people you’ll meet this month. Do what you will with this information. Make a bingo card and cross off the stereotypes as you come across them. I guarantee if you follow hockey in the slightest, you will see all of them.
