AFC NORTH

The AFC North offers a bit more intrigue than the AFC East, as both the Bengals and Ravens have had runs of success challenging the Steelers for supremacy over the past two decades. In terms of consistency, it’s hard to beat the franchises which are often at polar ends of this division’s standings by the end of each season, and those teams are at the opposite ends of this list as well.

Pittsburgh Steelers honest slogan: “Patriots Little Brother.” The only other team in the AFC to come close to replicating New England’s domination in terms of division titles and playoff appearances this century, it’s nonetheless relevant that Pittsburgh is 0-3 against the Patriots in playoff games during that span.

Baltimore Ravens honest slogan: “We Have a Harbaugh Too.” Since hiring Jon Harbaugh before the 2008 season, the Ravens have never finished in the cellar of this division, made the playoffs six times and won a Super Bowl. It doesn’t feel like it’s quite as successful as the facts suggest, however, because Jon’s brother Jim at Michigan gets a lot more press.

Cincinnati Bengals honest slogan: “Married to Marvin.” The Bengals hired Marvin Lewis as their head coach prior to the 2003 season and despite six appearances, have yet to win a playoff game in his tenure. That would be a death sentence for most NFL teams’ head coaches, but the Bengals seem attached to Lewis at the hip.

Cleveland Browns honest slogan: “Perfect Season Parade.” When you’ve recorded one win in the past two seasons, you have to give your fans something to look forward to. There’s nothing like a parade around your stadium in sub-zero temperatures to do that.
