Catcher/First Base, High End Spend

Early

Gary Sanchez, $3,900

.429/.429/.571 with 0 HR in 7 at-bats

The Yankees catcher still isn’t hitting well to start the season but facing off against a lefty could help jumpstart him. He’s usually smacking southpaws around with career numbers that include a .892 OPS, .322 ISO, and a .371 wOBA. In two starts so far, Francisco Liriano is giving up a fly ball over 40 percent of the time and his hard contact rate given up is also over 44 percent. That could spell trouble for the Tigers and a big day for the Bronx Bombers.

Main

Josh Bell, $3,600

N/A

Bell isn’t on the “right” side of his splits, but he’s mashing from both side of the plate so far. He also represents a major discount from the high-end, as Paul Goldschmidt is $1,000 more expensive. Goldy does draw a left but Bell seems more like the high-end play tonight. Bell is above average against Richards and his arsenal as well.

Mid-Range

Early

Jose Martinez, $3,200

N/A

If this sounds like a broken record, I apologize. When Martinez gets to face a lefty, we play Jose Martinez. He puts up video game numbers in his (short) career against the handedness. The Reds are sending Brandon Finnegan for his first start of 2018 and I’m licking my chops at what Martinez can do. Martinez carries an OPS over 1.200 and a wOBA over .500 in his career against lefties. He’s at home and is a borderline lock for me.

Main

Yasmani Grandal, $3,400

.500/.643/.900 with 1 HR in 10 at-bats

The Dodgers catcher has destroyed Taijuan Walker when they’ve face off and he could be an option for you again tonight. Grandal has started off on the right foot and Walker hasn’t shown any ability to be a solid major league pitcher on an every night basis. His numbers against righties are eye-popping right now with an OPS over 1.000 and a wOBA over .455. Grandal does carry a pretty solid price tag but it’s not that bad.

Value

Early

Christian Vazquez, $2,300

.727/.750/.727 with 0 HR in 11 at-bats

If you pay up for Scherzer, you’re going to have to find some type of savings at a couple spots. If you buy into BvP data, this could be one spot to do it at. Vazquez isn’t going to be a major source of points but he’s at a nice punt price and literally any bat in the Red Sox offense right now is at least on the radar.

We’ll have to wait on lineup cards.
