Mohamed Salah scored his 40th goal of the season in all competitions on Saturday with a delightful header against Bournemouth.

Mohamed Salah is in the middle of the most prolific scoring season by a Liverpool player since the heyday of Ian Rush. The Egyptian added to his tally on Saturday with a delightful header over Bournemouth keeper Asmir Begovic.

The finish was excellent, but no more impressive than the pass by Trent Alexander-Arnold, who’s enjoying his best spell as a Liverpool player following two breakout performances against Manchester City in the Champions League.

Salah’s goal comes at the end of a week that has featured plenty of discussion about the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, after Harry Kane was awarded an extra goal for the faintest of faint touches on Christian Eriksen’s cross against Stoke last week.

The decision was met with ridicule by Liverpool’s fans. Salah’s old club, Roma, even got in on the fun, posting a video of a Francesco Totti goal with Kane’s head superimposed on top of the Roma captain’s. Salah took to Twitter to offer his take.

As for the match against Bournemouth, the Reds scored early through Sadio Mane and dominated from there on out. Their second-half performance lacked intensity at times, but Salah’s goal sealed the result before Roberto Firmino made it three late on.

The finish puts him on 30 league goals, five more than Kane, who play against Manchester City later on Saturday. The Reds’ final four league games come against West Brom, Stoke, Chelsea and Brighton. Spurs face Brighton, Watford, West Brom, Newcastle and Leicester.
