The Nashville Predators host the Colorado Avalanche in Game 2 of their first-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.
The Nashville Predators and Colorado Avalanche were tied going into the third period of Game 1. However, Filip Forsberg took over, scoring two goals to seal the win for Nashville, including one where deked through the Avalanche, beating Jonathan Bernier.
Pekka Rinne had a strong Game 1 in net for Nashville, stopping 25 of 27 shots. The Finnish goalie is one of the favorites to win the Vezina Trophy this season and behind Nashville’s vaunted defense, goals will be rare for Colorado. After an injury knocked Ryan Johansen out of the Stanley Cup final last season, Johansen had two assists in Game 1 as the Predators look to return to the finals.
Bernier did not have a good Game 1. The Colorado goalie allowed four goals on 30 shots. If Bernier doesn’t play better, it could be a short series for the Avalanche. Colorado needs someone one to step up outside of Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog. The trio combined for 93 goals in the regular season and were the only Avalanche players to score more than 20 goals. Defensively, Colorado needs to stop Forsberg. In addition to his two third period goals, the Swedish winger took seven shots in Game 1.
