Capitals vs. Blue Jackets live stream, Game 2: TV schedule, online and more
By Adam Stocker
The Washington Capitals host the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 2 of their first-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.
The Columbus Blue Jackets and the San Jose Sharks were the only road teams to win Game 1. The Blue Jackets overcame a 2-0 deficit to force overtime, with Artemi Panarin scoring the winner. After two days off, the Capitals look to even the series in Game 2, before heading off to Columbus for Game 3 on Tuesday.
Barry Trotz’s decision to start Philipp Grubauer over Braden Holtby didn’t go as well as Capitals fans would have hoped. The German goalie allowed 4 goals on 27 shots. Washington will need a better game from Grubauer or Trotz might have to consider going back to Holtby despite his second half of the season struggles. Alexander Ovechkin had four shots in Game 1 but was held pointless despite logging almost 26 minutes of ice time. If the Capitals are ever going to make a run to the Stanley Cup, they need Ovechkin to score goals at a rate better than his career 0.51 goals per game rate in the regular season.
Panarin was the star of Game 1. The Russian winger scored the game-winning goal and added two assists. Thomas Vanek and Pierre-Luc Dubois both recorded two points in the Game 1 win. Seth Jones had a massive game on the Blue Jackets’ blueline. Jones played 30:59 in Game 1 and scored the goal to force overtime. Sergei Bobrovsky did enough in net to win Game 1 but will have to be better throughout the rest of the series if Columbus is going to advance.
