9. Did the New Orleans Pelicans do enough for DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis?
What I Said Then: I love Davis and Cousins, but the front office did them a disservice this offseason. I hope the coaching staff is able to figure it out and maximize the damage Brow and Boogie should be able to do together. But if they canāt it falls on the feet of the front office.
What Iām Saying Now: Just when Davis and Cousins were hitting their stride, Boogie was lost for the season. And that made me a sad panda.
As far as the talent around them, they were saved by Jrue Holiday. Rajon Rondo was his usual inconsistent self where sometimes he cared and most of the time he didnāt. EāTwaun Moore was a solid role player who stepped up following the injury to Cousins. They tried using Emeka Okafor, which was a nice story.
But it was Holiday who proved to be invaluable. Without him, who knows where they would have been. Probably back in the lottery. Not only did he provide secondary scoring behind Davis, but he was one of the best perimeter defenders in the league. When heathy, the Pelicans had a Big 3 that rivaled any team in the league.
The Cousins injury changed the course of the entire season for the Pelicans. If he doesnāt get injured, theyāre competing for the third or fourth seed. The league is all about great shooters, but the Pelicans had something different. They could play inside-out and no team had an answer for them.
Iām depressed just thinking about it.
Raindrops, on top. Pelicans winning in the score box. Dunkinā on these dudes they get drop, drop, dropped. Cookinā up defenders like a crockpot. New Orleans is Brow and Boogie, headlock dudes with a noogie. Holiday savage ruthless. Heās scoring 30 on teams, too.
