Mama Matthews must be good luck for Maple Leafs’ Auston
Auston Matthews finally got on the board with a goal in Game 3, and the only logical explanation for it is that his mom was there, wearing a shirt with his face on it.
We always seem to work a little harder when Mom is watching, and 20-year-old Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews is no different than the rest of us.
The Toronto Maple Leafs came into Monday’s Game 3 trailing 2-0 to the Boston Bruins after getting crushed 7-3 in Game 2, and they needed something big to get themselves going again and get back in this series.
After nearly two periods of even play, the Maple Leafs and Bruins were tied at two goals apiece.
After being held without a point in the first two games of the series, Auston Matthews finally got on the board a with a nasty bar down goal to break the tie and gave the Maple Leafs the 3-2 lead.
After the go ahead goal, young Matthews was HYPED.
The best part? The camera cut away from the action to show Matthews’ mom, the wholesome Ema Matthews, not only celebrating her son’s huge goal, but wearing an outstanding T-shirt with Auston’s cartoon face on it.
Mrs. Matthews has already had some memorable reactions in her son’s two-year career, with the best definitely being her losing her mind and crying tears of joy at Auston being the first to score four goals in his NHL debut last season.
Mrs. Matthews originally knew nothing about hockey before moving to the United States from Mexico nearly 25 years ago. Since then, she has dedicated her life to hockey since Auston discovered it, even going as far as living in Switzerland with Auston as he played for the ZSC Lions Zurich before his draft year. Now her 20-year-old son is the savior of one of the biggest hockey markets in the world, and she is a local Toronto celebrity.

The Maple Leafs needed all the luck they could get in hopes of getting back in their series against the Bruins, and Mrs. Matthews is certainly doing her part, especially in willing her son to more production.
