FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Monday, April 16th
Shortstop, High End Spend
Carlos Correa, $4,700
.375/.375/.500 with 0 HR in 16 at-bats
Carlos Correa provides a good lesson for anyone playing DFS tonight. Don’t hold grudges when you play and that simply means don’t hold a bad game against a player. the last time we played Correa against a lefty, he let us down with a big fat zero. However, he sees this particular lefty well and his career numbers are beyond excellent. For his career, he carries a .876 OPS, .214 ISO, and a .372 wOBA. That’s worth chasing almost every time he draws a southpaw and that’s the case tonight. Even though Paxton is super talented, he hasn’t started off too hot. Correa could get to him this evening.
Also Consider – Jean Segura, $4,000
Mid-Range
Addison Russell, $3,400
.400/.438/.600 with 0 HR in 15 at-bats
This play falls into two categories. The first is Wainwright isn’t a good pitcher anymore, which we’ve discussed. The second is the BvP data combined with the price point. Just to further that point, Wainwright has an ERA over 5 and a WHIP right at 1.50. What’s super interesting is that his ground ball and hard contact rates are actually good. So one could argue he’s been lucky so far to achieve that ERA and WHIP. Things could actually get a lot worse for Wainwright. Russell has shown improvement hitting that curveball and Wainwright should scare exactly nobody.
Also Consider – Scott Kingery, $3,700
Value
Trevor Story, $3,100
N/A
This is a little higher than normal for the value range, but Story is only the 12th most expensive shortstop despite facing a lefty who isn’t very good. Lefty Steven Brault is giving up a line drive or fly ball about half the time and is giving up a whopping 46.2 hard contact percentage. For the crowd that doesn’t look at Story outside of Coors, you could be missing out. Including his rough start to this season, his umbers away from Coors when facing a lefty are still very good. He’s got a .273 batting average, .872 OPS, .237 ISO, and a .369 wOBA. The best part is he’s discounted for not being at Coors. Strikeouts are always a concern, but Brault has a a career 6.89 K/9. Story might be safer than normal tonight.
