Here’s what’s coming up on the next all-new episode of Legion this week.
Last week Legion made sure its audience knew where the characters were in the story, and where they stood. It was an unusually cut-and-dry episode from a show that often seems to aim for the confounding. I’m not sure how long that can last.
In “Chapter 10” we spent time almost exclusively in the real world, and were introduced to the important characters by name as soon as they showed up (Hello Amahl Farouk!) With a base of information pretty well established Legion may (should?) be able to delve into the more surreal aspects of the show without losing too many people.
You can read the synopsis for Legion’s “Chapter 11,” from TV Guide
"“David navigates the maze.”"
From this sentence, I know exactly what the episode will be about, but I have no idea how it will be executed.
In the season premiere, a mysterious narrator turned up on the show to deliver what I think was supposed to be a teaching moment. The character played by Jon Hamm has shown up a few times since most memorably comparing a delusion to an idea. Legion has always done visual storytelling fantastically, and that scene, with a slimy black ‘delusion’ hatching next to a fuzzy yellow chick, was no exception.
In one of the first monologues, we got from the unnamed narrator talked about a person creating a ‘maze in their mind.’ This is obviously what the synopsis references. We’ve already seen David do something like this, while trapped by the Shadow King in season 1. But now that David has met the Shadow King, seemingly face to face, how will things change? David is certainly not the same person as he was in season 1, and he knows Farouk/the Shadow King is there now.

The show has also shown a greater willingness to take David out of his surroundings. He spent almost the entire first season inside Summerland, at least physically. Season 2 has already changed that by removing the entire team to Division 3, and even in the first episode it certainly seemed like David ventured out of the Division to meet Farouk in the field. It will be interesting to see how Legion chooses to handle things.
“Chapter 11” airs Tuesday night at 10 p.m. on FX.
