The Golden State Warriors dominated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series, and the Warriors will try to make it a 2-0 lead on Monday night.

Kawhi Leonard isn’t walking through that door.

The Leonard-less Spurs were no match for the Golden State Warriors in Game 1 on Saturday, and the Warriors won’t have to worry about Leonard returning for Monday’s Game 2, or at all.

The defending champions flipped the switch in Game 1 after a lethargic close to the season without Stephen Curry. The Warriors are still without their two-time MVP, but they were humming along on both ends in their 113-92 victory.

Steve Kerr’s decision to use JaVale McGee and Andre Iguodala in the starting lineup paid off. McGee scored a season-high 15 points and helped fluster LaMarcus Aldridge into a quiet 14-point night. The Spurs will need a lot more from Aldridge if they want to have any chance of competing in this series.

Klay Thompson led Golden State’s explosive offensive attack with 27 points on 11-of-13 shooting.  Thompson buried five of his six 3-point attempts as the Warriors shot 54.3 percent from the field and 45.5 percent from long range.

Kevin Durant also had a terrific game, going for 24 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. With no Leonard to deter him, Durant had little problem shooting over the Spurs’ smaller wings, leaving Gregg Popovich to determine that his best strategy against KD is for Danny Green to grow four or five inches.

The Warriors have a significant talent edge in this series, so there’s little reason to believe Game 2 will go much different than Game 1. Perhaps Popovich will have some tricks up his sleeve to make things interesting, though magically making his players taller is unfortunately not one of them.
