Rays outfielder Kiermaier out for 8-12 weeks
By Zach Houle
The Tampa Bay Rays are going to have a long year, and now their star outfielder Kevin Kiermaier will be out for the foreseeable future.
The Tampa Bay Rays tore the whole team down this offseason. Tampa has now quickly developed into a rebuilding club. They have been extremely awful with a 3-12 record. Also, the team really doesn’t have any key pieces at the major league level. The only two they have are defensive wiz Kevin Kiermaier and ace Chris Archer.
For the fans’ sake, the club should just unload the rest of their controllable assets and move on. Unfortunately, one of them will be out for a couple months in Kevin Kiermaier. The outfielder has torn a ligament in his right thumb, according to the report. This is a big blow for a club that lacked impact talent, but at least it will give time to some of the younger players.
Kiermaier has been one of the best defensive outfielders in the game, but his star seems dull because he plays for the Rays — although fans will have plenty of time to see him due to his six-year extension he signed last year. He has been injury prone in recent seasons, so that may be a concern for his future.
The club did bring up outfielder Johnny Field to cover the injury. The Rays have the 27th-best offense in the league, so this injury won’t help their cause. Tampa will most likely utilize a couple players in center field for the long run. A positive is that the team will tank even harder than it was before. With that said, there is even more of a reason to not watch this team.

This team is going to pile up loss after loss in terrible fashion. It’s fine, though, because it’s the Tampa Bay Rays. The only people that care about this team are the few fans in the stadium and the people that run the franchise. Their stadium dilemma has hindered the team’s potential over the long haul. This is just another bump in the road.
