We’re not even through Round 1 of the Stanley Cup playoffs, and the San Jose Sharks are already killing it with the crazy towel game. This is why we hockey.

If you grew up in the ’80s or ’90s, you’ve no doubt played a little bit of classic Nintendo.

Clearly, the San Jose Sharks have played tons of Nintendo, and they’re not shy about showing their love for it in preparation for their Game 3 tilt against the Anaheim Ducks.

San Jose currently leads 2-0.

First, let me give you the lowdown on Duck Hunt for those who’ve never played. You do exactly as the name suggests, which is hunt ducks with what’s called a NES Zapper. Ducks fly randomly across and you try to shoot them down. We’re just sad that the annoying dog didn’t make an appearance. But no matter.

That thing is a total keeper. We only hope the team will have this play out as a full-blown scenario on the ice before puck drop, dog included. Maybe even with complete Nintendo sounds and the Duck Hunt theme song after every goal the Sharks score.

If you’re going to go this far and make something so awesome, please complete the job. We’re begging you. All of this needs to happen. We’re hoping other clubs are going to start digging into the NES archives.

Maybe some Punch-Out towels for anyone about to be swept? Castlevania for Golden Knights and Kings? San Jose, you simply opened a world of possibility. Now if we can get a Super Mario Bros.-themed towel for that Marchand/Pastrnak/Bergeron combination, we might be all set. We’ll let them fight over who has to be Princess Peach, though.
