The fifth and final season of The Originals begins on Wednesday night with episode 1, “Where You Left Your Heart.” Here are the details on how to watch the season premiere online.

The Originals season 5 is starting off with quite the time jump. Seven years to be specific. And while most of the characters haven’t aged physically, their lives have all drastically changed. This is excluding the now teenage Hope for a second.

Thanks to the spell at the the end season 4, the Mikaelsons were all forced to leave New Orleans behind, and the city seems to be much better off now that the first vampire family is gone. Of course, it can’t really be The Originals without New Orleans, so the non-Mikaelsons and Freya are still in town.

Haley is in charge of the werewolves. Freya and Vincent take care of the witches. And Josh is now the leader of the vampires now that Marcel is in New York with Rebekah. Under their leadership, and without Klaus and Marcel fighting each other for control of the city, New Orleans is now a very peaceful place again.

But Vincent is worried. It has been too long without any problems. After seven years of prosperity, he is concerned that it is all about to fall apart. Almost like he knows this is the start of a new season, and it won’t be long until the Mikaelsons come back.

The rest of the group reassures Vincent that the Mikaelsons are all far away. Rebekah and Marcel are in New York. Elijah no longer even remembers his siblings. And Klaus is on a murderous rampage across Europe.

Of course what Haley docent know is that her daughter is at magical boarding school trying to find a way to see her father again. Even if it will awaken an ancient evil. But, it would not be a very fun final season if the happy, peaceful New Orleans stayed intact for more than the first episode.
