Blue Jackets vs. Capitals live stream, Game 4: TV schedule, online and more
By Adam Stocker
The Columbus Blue Jackets host the Washington Capitals in Game 4 of their first-round series. Here’s everything you need to know to watch.
The Columbus Blue Jackets and Washington Capitals are proving home-ice advantage means very little in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The road team has won every game in the series in overtime.
Barry Trotz’s decision to go back to Braden Holtby in net paid off. Holtby stopped 33 of 35 shots, helping the Capitals get their first win of the series.
John Carlson has had a strong series, playing almost 31 minutes a game and picking up seven points. Carlson is one of three Washington defensemen who average more than 30 minutes per game. In comparison, Seth Jones is the only Columbus player averaging more than 30 minutes per game. Washington’s reliance on its top three defensemen could hurt the club’s run in the playoffs. Offensively, Nicklas Backstrom and Alexander Ovechkin have combined for nine points. However, the Capitals will need Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie to produce at a similar level. If Washington is forced to rely on Backstrom and Ovechkin, its playoff run will again end before the conference finals.
Columbus goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky has played well throughout the series posting a .925 save percentage. John Tortorella has done an excellent job managing the minutes of his defensemen. Five of Columbus’ defense average more than 23 minutes per game. Offensively, Artemi Panarin has been excellent, scoring seven points in the first three games. Pierre-Luc Dubois had a strong rookie season that went under the radar this season. The former third overall pick recorded 48 points in the regular season and has three points against Washington. The Blue Jackets will need Dubois continue to produce if they are going to win the series.
