Second Base, High End Spend

Ozzie Albies, $4,300

N/A

Albies is coming a mint these days but he draws a pretty positive matchup with opposing starter Matt Harvey. Albies isn’t on the right side of his splits but neither is Harvey. He’s giving up a ton of fly balls to lefty hitters to go along with a lot of hard contact. That’s not a great fit when you’re trying to get an exciting young player out. It should be noted that Albies does have poor numbers against righty pitching. You’re likely just going to decide if Harvey has anything left or not. If you don’t believe he does, Albies should be able to get to him, splits or not. It may not be the way I go, but there are worse plays than Albies on the board this evening.

Also Consider – Asdrubal Cabrera, $3,900

Mid-Range

My goodness the middle class of second base is ugly tonight. Starlin Castro, Jonathan Villar, and Joe Panik are all in rough spots. Every one else is close enough to Albies that it’s likely just try to find that money. Ian Kinsler does draw a lefty on the mound and that’s always interesting but his price tag of $3,700 isn’t exactly in the mid-range. At least as of right now, this seems like a spot where we’ll either pay up or pay down and punt.

Value

Brock Holt, $2,700

N/A

There’s not really a ton of analysis here. Second base is pretty gross this evening but you have to play someone. Seeing as how the options are fairly limited, Holt could be the route I go. He does get to face a righty, so that’s always good for a lefty hitter. Nick Tropeano is still working his way back after missing the entirety of the past season. He’s facing a buzzsaw of the offense and Holt is going to be hitting lower in the order. Still, we can hope he gets on once or twice and maybe gets driven in by Mookie Betts or one of the other big bats at the top of the Boston lineup. Anything over around six points from Holt would likely be gravy.

Also Consider – Ketel Marte, $2,500
