2018 NBA Mock Draft: What do playoff teams need?
The teams in this year’s playoffs are showing their strengths and weaknesses, making it clear which prospects may fall in line for them in the latest edition of our 2018 NBA mock draft.
For each pick, team needs are taken into consideration, as well as fit.
This pick is originally from the Rockets, who finished the season with the league’s best record. The Hawks own three picks in this year’s first round, though it’s unlikely they keep all three. Consider this pick a placeholder based on value — Hutchison made his case throughout a tremendous senior season.
The coach Hutchison credits for helping turn him into a mid-major star is also leaving Boise State, perhaps with the intention of helping the senior prepare for the draft. He has not announced his next job. If he could help Hutchison round out the rougher edges of his game — ball-handling and athleticism — into something more resembling NBA level by June, it would help Hutchison a lot.
There weren’t a lot of eyes on him as he fought his way to the NIT at a school not known for its basketball program, and he will need to impress at draft workouts to guarantee himself a first-round selection. Landing in Atlanta would be good for him, in a program that always seems to maximize the 3-and-D-ness of its wing prospects.
