2018 NBA Mock Draft: What do playoff teams need?
One thing has been made abundantly clear this postseason, even considering Kawhi Leonard’s offense and the massive hole it has created for San Antonio: the Spurs need help on offense. San Antonio has posted a 101.2 offensive rating through two games against the Warriors, a number that lags behind their season mark by more than six points. It has been a mess, aside from LaMarcus Aldridge, whose heroics just haven’t been enough.
Taming Walker would be a long-term project for teams with less organizational clarity than the Spurs. In San Antonio, Walker would clearly rank near the back of the team in terms of role and opportunity. He would work for everything he got on a team that values hard work and discipline.
Nearly 20 percent of Walker’s shots last season were 2-point jumpers, and he made just 33 percent. That inefficient style will need to flip regardless of where he lands, and play-making will need to become a bigger part of his game. The difference that sets him apart as a Spur is that I trust that team to develop his strengths better than any other.
