4. You spend far too much time looting

Let’s set the scene. You drop in to Moisty Mire and clear it out, leaving enough behind for an entire squad. The storm is coming in and you have a marathon to run to get into the circle, but you probably have time to hit the prison, right? Wrong.

People that over-loot end up either dead in the storm, or alive long enough to make it out and get shot immediately. This kind of person is even worse if you are playing with a squad. They’ll have a gold scar, a purple heavy shotgun and a blue bolt-action sniper but still hit every single hut, house and shack in case of a small upgrade. You and the rest of the squad are forced to wait at the edge of the storm, vulnerable.

“Don’t worry, I have a med kit.” Well that doesn’t do us any good if we get destroyed sitting out in the open here waiting for you. The looter is the worst person to squad with.

In solo play, the looter can occasionally get lucky. Sometimes taking a bit of damage in the storm is worth the AR upgrade or chug jug you will find on your way. For the most part, though, you are just giving away health. As long as you have a decent loadout, get out of the storm. It pays to be set up in the circle more than it does to run in with no health.

How to fix this:

Before the game, set yourself a loadout minimum. You want to mix it up and go as powerful as you can, but not at the expense of risking death by storm. Make sure you are covered for all types of battles. You’re going to want to go with one of each short, medium and long range weapons, then extra shield potion (trust me) and medical. It pays to carry shield potion and a med kit/bandages, especially when you can use them after a battle and not in the storm.
