If Jalen Hurts winds up transferring from Alabama, here are five schools who should be in the mix for him, including two schools from his home state.

The second half of the national title game and the performance of true freshman quarterback Tua Tagovailoa set up a competition for the starting job with Jalen Hurts. Tagovailoa is not expected to play in Alabama’s spring on Saturday, due to an injury to his throwing hand. Hurts has an opportunity to stand out show his coaches, teammates and fans how much he’s improved since the National Championship Game.

But on Thursday, a stir was created with the release of comments Hurts’ father made to Bleacher Report’s Matt Hayes. Averion Hurts suggested his son would transfer if he does not win the starting job and would be the “biggest free agent in college football history” in that case.

Hurts has a 26-2 record as a starter, with appearances in the last two national title games. His possible future in the NFL as a quarterback looks non-existent, but as a college signal caller he’s got plenty to offer and will be highly sought-after if he’s available.

If Hurts does leave Tuscaloosa, here are five potential destinations for him.

5. Florida State

At first glance, the Seminoles look just fine under center with Deondre Francois working his way back to full strength and sophomore James Blackman getting a lot of starting experience last year when Francois suffered a knee injury in the season opener.

Francois was in the headlines for the wrong reasons n April. Tallahassee police raiding his apartment due to suspicion he was selling weed after a two-month surveillance exercise. But he was not arrested, and his status on the football team does not appear to be in doubt.

First-year Seminoles coach Willie Taggart has had success with dual-threat quarterbacks, most notably at South Florida with Quinton Flowers and over a smaller sample with Justin Herbert at Oregon last year.

Hurts will surely want a clear path to a starting job if he transfers. But there are just enough question marks right now to open the door to Florida State.
