3. TCU

Gary Patterson has secured a top quarterback prospect in the 2018 (Justin Rogers) and 2019 classes (Max Duggan). But sophomore Shawn Robinson, the projected starter for this year at least in part due to Rogers’ likely redshirt in the wake of knee surgery, attempted 27 passes last year and behind him are Penn transfer Michael Collins and fifth-year senior Grayson Muehlstein.

TCU would obviously be another home state option for Hurts. That may or may not really matter to him, but Patterson and his staff would surely highlight that along with an opportunity to earn the starting job after sitting out the 2018 season as a transfer.

Hurts may have been held back a bit by a pro-style, run-oriented offense at Alabama, along with the high level of competition in the SEC. That would not be a real issue at TCU, where his running ability would be highlighted in a system influenced by co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Sonny Cumbie, and defense is mostly just a suggestion in the Big 12.
