West Brom took a minor step towards survival last week against Manchester United, winning 1-0 for their first victory since January. Unfortunately for the Baggies, it seems like it’s too little too late for their chances. They’re still on the bottom of the table on 24 points, nine points behind Swansea in 17th, but the Swans have a game in hand. After a “mutual agreement” to part ways with Alan Pardew, West Brom have drawn and won their two matches under Darren Moore. One has to wonder whether or not they could’ve made a serious push if they had disposed of Pardew earlier. To have any chance at staying up now, they’ll need to win their next four which include Liverpool and Tottenham. It’s just not going to happen.
Liverpool are firmly entrenched in the top four baring a disastrous final four games. Their focus has to be on the Champions League at this point, as they face Roma in the semifinals just three days after they play West Brom. Jurgen Klopp would be forgiven if he plays a significantly weakened side against the cellar-dwellers of West Brom. They’re still likely to win either way.
