The Utah Jazz and Oklahoma City Thunder shift their series to Utah for Game 3 as one of them looks to gain the upper hand.

The Utah Jazz were on the ropes in Game 2 against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Already down a game in the series, the Jazz had just allowed a 19-0 run to see a nine-point lead turn into a 10-point deficit. Instead of completely folding, the Jazz responded behind a killer closing performance from Donovan Mitchell and pulled out a 102-95 win to tie the series at 1-1 as it shifts to Utah for Game 3 on Saturday night.

Mitchell scored 13 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter. Making his performance even more impressive was the fact he suffered a foot injury in the second half of Game 1 that clearly hobbled him at the end of that loss. It certainly didn’t bother him as he closed out the Thunder in Game 2.

Mitchell got enough offensive help from Ricky Rubio and Derrick Favors. Rubio recorded 22 points and handed out nine assists, while Favors scored 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting after a quiet Game 1.

Utah’s defense also deserves a ton of credit for shutting down Oklahoma City in the fourth quarter. The Thunder managed just 16 fourth-quarter points, with Russell Westbrook, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony missing all 14 of their shot attempts in the final frame.

George took a big step back after his scorching-hot performance in Game 1. Perhaps he was bothered by the hip injury he suffered late in that victory, but he shot just 6 of 21 overall and 4 of 12 from 3 to score 18 points. Westbrook and Anthony also shot poorly and failed to reach 20 points.

Another health situation to monitor is that of Steven Adams. Adams suffered a right arm injury on a dunk in Game 1, but he played 22 minutes in Game 2 before fouling out. However, the big man didn’t look completely right, and an ineffective Adams is bad news for Oklahoma City.

This series is up for grabs. The Thunder may have more talent, but Mitchell is playing well beyond his years and the Jazz have an outstanding defense. Utah has a prime chance to take control of the series on its home floor.
