Cliff Huxtable
Those older than me know Cliff Huxtable as America’s Dad. He’s arguably the best television father in television history. He’s kind, he’s funny, and he’s competitive. He also wears tacky sweaters, which is a great quality to have as a MLB manager.
You hear the term “players’ manager” all the time. It’s a manager who is takes it easy on his players. He always has their back and he caters to their needs. When a players’ manager works out, they are credited for having a strong relationship with their players. When a players’ manager doesn’t work out, it’s because they were too easy on the players.
Cliff would the the ultimate players’ manager. He’d be joking around with them eating some pudding pops, making prop bets. Wait, scratch that last one. You’re not allowed to do that as a sports manager.
Huxtable’s problem that he’s not always the brightest bulb. Never let a doctor tell you they are smarter than you just because they are a doctor. We know Huxtable wasn’t all that smart because he lost every bet he made. He was terrible at chess. That’s a bad sign for his managerial prospects.
Best Fit: St. Louis Cardinals
No one likes the Cardinals. Maybe this is me projecting as a Reds fan. But even fans of other teams don’t seem to like the Cardinals. They need a likable personality to counterbalance the presence of Yadier Molina.
Huxtable was Dusty Baker before Dusty Baker was brining his kid to the dugout in playoff games. He’s the warm teddy bear who you want to succeed, but he makes the wrong decision at the wrong time.
Good luck in St. Louis.
