DraftKings Main MLB Picks April 23: Cole looks like a lock

There are nine games tonight, but the Atlanta-Cincinnati game that starts 20 minutes before the rest of the games was chopped off the main slate again. You can only get a piece of that action in pick em and showdown modes.

More from DraftKings

We lost the game in Atlanta yesterday thanks to rain. Hotlanta is once again on the hot seat for rain. This game has a great chance of being delayed at best. We could have another rainout, so be careful in pick em.

The only wind over 10 MPH tonight is blowing in from right in both Atlanta and Colorado. Not like that will affect the Coors stack though. It’s only 11 MPH.

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

FanDuel MLB: CLEVELAND, OH – APRIL 11: Starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco #59 of the Cleveland Indians pitches during the ninth inning against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field on April 11, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. The Indians defeated the Tigers 5-1. (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Gerrit Cole ($12,600): Cole has absolutely dominated the current Angels. They are hitting just .160 in 75 at bats with one homer, four runs, and an impressive 21 strikeouts. Cole and Carrasco will both be highly owned, but I think I like Cole a little more against Tyler Skaggs.

Carlos Carrasco ($11,700): It’s a small sample size, but Carrasco has dominated the Orioles. The O’s are only hitting .186 in 43 at bats against Carrasco with just one homer and three runs to go with ten strikeouts. There is a lot of potential here for Carrasco. If you are paying up for a pitcher, this is the one you want.

Middle Tier:

Gio Gonzalez ($10,800): Gio is easy to overlook with two other aces out here, but that could be a mistake. The Giants are only hitting .250 against Gio in 128 at bats with two homers and ten runs, but only 21 strikeouts. The lack of strikeouts make it hard to pay five digits, but his track record against the Giants is pretty darn good.

Masahiro Tanaka ($8,800): The Twins are only hitting .234 in 77 at bats against Tanaka with only one homer, five runs, and a pretty solid 21 strikeouts. Tanaka has been off and on during his time in the states, but he is almost always on against the Twins. Tanaka is a solid build at either pitcher slot tonight.

Bargain Pitchers:

Walker Buehler ($6,200): Buehler looked pretty bad in the majors last year, but he will make his 2018 debut in a very favorable spot. The Marlins aren’t a great hitting team, so there is potential here for Buehler. Especially when you consider that most of the Marlins’ punch is from the right side. I like Buehler for cheap in Dodger Stadium.

Jake Odorizzi ($6,100): Odorizzi is familiar with the Yankees from his time in Tampa, and he was actually pretty solid against them. The current Yankees are only hitting .205 against Odorizzi with four homers, nine runs, and 19 strikeouts in 83 at bats. Now the bad news: Odorizzi has a 5.75 ERA in seven career starts in new Yankee Stadium.

SAN DIEGO, CA – SEPTEMBER 21: Wil Myers #4 of the San Diego Padres is congratulated after scoring during the sixth inning of a baseball game against the Colorado Rockies at PETCO Park on September 21, 2017 in San Diego, California. (Photo by Denis Poroy/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Wil Myers is 9-19(.474) with a walk, three doubles, a triple, five runs, and six RBI against Chad Bettis. Austin Hedges is 2-3 with a walk and a solo homer against Chad Bettis his career. Hedges is worth a look if he starts.

Gary Sanchez is only 2-7 against Jake Odorizzi, but he has a walk, a homer, and two RBI.

Middle Tier:

Matt Chapman is perfect against Matt Moore so far. Chapman has a sing, a double, and a RBI off of Moore. There could be more in store tonight. Chapman is an essential part of any A’s stack.

The Mariners have destroyed Miguel Gonzalez in his career. Kyle Seager is 3-12 with two walks, a homer, two runs, and three RBI against Gonzalez, and is a good place to start a Mariners stack.

Ian Desmond is very reasonably priced for a game in Coors, and he is 2-3 with a double, a homer, and three RBI off of Bryan Mitchell.

Jarlin Garcia is still a new name in DFS, but Cody Bellinger has homered off of him already.

Bargain Shoppers:

Adrian Beltre is 11-30(.367) with a walk, four doubles, two homers, seven runs, and five RBI in his career against Trevor Cahill. The Rangers are beat up, but Cahill has struggled against all of them so far.

Evan Longoria is starting to heat up, and he is 2-4 with three walks, three runs, and a RBI off of Gio Gonzalez. Buster Posey is 8-27(.296) with a walk, a double, a steal, and a solo homer against Gio.

Look  out for Eduardo Escobar here. Escobar is 6-13(.462) with a double and a RBI against Masahiro Tanaka. Escobar certainly seems to have his number. Logan Morrison has the only Twins homer against Tanaka, but LoMo is only hitting .190 against Tanaka in 21 at bats.

LOS ANGELES, CA – NOVEMBER 01: Carlos Correa #1 and Jose Altuve #27 of the Houston Astros celebrate defeating the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in game seven to win the 2017 World Series at Dodger Stadium on November 1, 2017 in Los Angeles, California. (Photo by Tim Bradbury/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Brian Dozier is 5-14(.357) with a double and two runs off of Masahiro Tanaka. You probably want a little more if you are going to pay that much for a position player.

Francisco Lindor is 2-6 with a homer and two RBI in his career against Kevin Gausman. The Indians aren’t one of the teams that have hit Gausman really hard, but a couple of Indians are worth a look tonight.

The Astros against a lefty? Yep! Jose Altuve is 6-15 with two walks, three steals, and two runs against Tyler Skaggs already. Carlos Correa is 2-6 with a walk and a run.

Middle Tier:

Mike Leake has only faced one White Sox player in his career, and though he is pitching well, Yoan Moncada is hitting very well right now. Moncada and Tim Anderson are worth a look at weaker positions.

Corey Seager has also homered off of Jarlin Garcia. Seager hit a two run shot against Garcia in his only game against him. Kike Hernandez is also worth a look considering what he does to lefties.

Robinson Cano is only 6-32(.188) against Miguel Gonzalez, but he has three walks, a double, a homer, four runs, and four RBI off of him.

Bargain Shoppers:

Kelby Tomlinson could be worth a look if he starts. Tomlinson is 1-2 with a RBI triple against Gio. Brandon Crawford has one of the two homers against Gonzalez, but is only hitting .231 off of him in 13 at bats.

Chad Pinder doesn’t have much experience against Matt Moore, but I’ll stack some A’s against Moore and see what sticks. Pinder and Jed Lowrie are both in play here.

NEW YORK, NY – OCTOBER 09: Aaron Judge #99 of the New York Yankees watches the fans in the stand catch Roberto Perez #55 of the Cleveland Indians home run against Luis Severino #40 during the fifth inning in Game Four of the American League Divisional Series at Yankee Stadium on October 9, 2017 in the Bronx borough of New York City. (Photo by Al Bello/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

All rise! Aaron Judge is 2-5 with two walks, a solo homer, and three runs scored against Jake Odorizzi. Brett Gardner is only 6-29(.207) against Odorizzi, but he has three walks, a double, a homer, three steals, six runs, and three RBI off of him.

If you are okay punting pitching, you need to stack Rockies against Bryan Mitchell. Any Rockies stack needs to start with Charlie Blackmon. Including Carlos Gonzalez and Trevor Story aren’t bad ideas either.

Chris Stratton has pitched well this year, particularly at home. However, some guy named Bryce Harper is leading the league in homers, and will have a bat in hand against Stratton tonight.

Justin Upton is 4-11 with a walk, a run, and a RBI against Gerrit Cole. Kole Calhoun is the only other Angel above the Mendoza line against Cole in their careers.

More from FanSided

Middle Tier:

The whole Mariners outfield comes cheap, and every one of them has hit Miguel Gonzalez hard. It starts with Nelson Cruz. Cruz is 5-16 with a walk, a double, a homer, three runs, and four RBI. Ichiro is super cheap, and he is 6-19(.316) with a walk, three doubles, two homers, and three RBI off of Gonzalez. Ben Gamel‘s only at bat against Miguel Gonzalez resulted in a three run homer.

Adam Jones is only 2-12 in his career against Carlos Carrasco, but he has the Orioles only homer against Carrasco.

Shin-Soo Choo is 5-10 with four walks, a double, two runs, a steal, and three RBI in his career against Trevor Cahill. I’m also a fan of Nomar Mazara here as well.

Bargain Shoppers:

If Jake Smolinski gets the start against lefty Matt Moore, I’m interested. Smolinski is 1-2 with a walk and a three run homer against Moore. Khris Davis and Stephen Piscotty are on my radar as well.

Wow, how is Andrew McCutchen in this tier? That seems unfair. McCutchen is 6-20 with four walks, two doubles, a triple, a run, and a RBI off of Gio Gonzalez.

Jake Marisnick is really cheap, and he is perfect against Tyler Skaggs. Marisnick has two singles, a double, a homer, two runs, and two RBI against Skaggs. Thinking about George Springer? Think again. Springer is 0-13 lifetime against Skaggs.
