What could be coming up in Legion “Chapter 12”?

During last weeks episode of Legion, we got insight into why the Shadow King was so interested in David, and it was more complicated than we thought. When we first learned of the Shadow King in Legion season 1 his motivations seemed fairly simple. In fact, they were spelled out on a chalkboard.

The Shadow King was using David to get revenge on his father. We know very little about the history between Charles Xavier and Amahl Farouk on the show, only that it exists. But it never seemed that far-fetched that the conflict could have led the Shadow King to find David. And while he might not have been able to subdue the father, Farouk certainly did haunt the son.

However, what came to light in “Chapter 11” was a bit more complicated than that. David had apparently, years before, been designated as a weapon. One that was capable of, and maybe even destined to destroy the Shadow King. If that is the case, it would have been, in some ways, a matter of survival for Farouk to keep David confused and somewhat out of control.

That influence was largely what drove him into Clockworks before season 1 began. But it was removed in the finale, so David is a bit more dangerous now. Since then the Shadow King has resorted to more subtle methods, including (I believe) Future-Syd to influence David.

The true agenda of Division 3 is still pretty suspicious. But the fact that we learned about David being this weapon against Farouk does explain why Farouk wants to convince David not to destroy the body.

I believe David will choose between his loyalties (to present and future-Syd) in the upcoming “Chapter 12.” TV Guide provides a quick and succinct synopsis three-word synopsis.

"“David is tested.”"

Of course there are many ways that could be interpreted. But I think he will have to choose between the team in his present time and Future-Syd/Farouk. I say this because the episode seems to focus on Syd, and the two versions of her have had quite different goals in mind.

Watch Legion Tuesday nights at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
