DraftKings MLB April 24 Night Lineup: Buy low on Zach Davies
By Bill Pivetz
There are 11 games in the DraftKings night slate, giving you plenty of options. You should have Zach Davies in your lineup no matter what.
The DraftKings slate for April 24 is a little interesting. There are two big pools of games to pick from. One has 11 games starting at 7 PM, which is the one I’m using. The other has 12 games starting between 6:10 and 8:40 EST.
The reason I’m going with the 11-game slate is the two night games feature some interesting matchups. The Miami Marlins travel west to take on Kenta Maeda and the Los Angeles Dodgers. The second game is the Washington Nationals against the San Francisco Giants.
The early games do have some star power as they feature CHC/CLE, MIN/NYY and ATL/CIN. But with that star power comes a high price tag. Using the smaller slate, I was able to pick productive players without sacrificing my budget.

It’s also important to select players that won’t be on everyone else’s team. Yes, players like a Mike Trout or Bryce Harper could see 80 percent ownership. But it’s the players that are down at like five to 10 percent that will be the difference in you winning some cash.
P: Rick Porcello ($9,500)
P: Zach Davies ($7,000)
Porcello takes on the Toronto Blue Jays on the road. In his last three games, he scored at least 24.9 points and was 2.2 points shy of scoring 20 in four straight starts. The Blue Jays did get back Kendrys Morales and Teoscar Hernandez is heating up but I’m not threatened by the rest of the lineup. At just under $10,000, he’s a good investment to pitch a lot of innings and get the win.
Davis had a poor first month, but this isn’t anything new. If you look at his splits from last year, he posted a 6.75 ERA and 1.865 WHIP in April. He posted an ERA no higher than 4.50 in the rest of the following months. The same looks to be happening this season. While May isn’t here yet, he posted his longest outing of the season in his last start. He pitches against the Kansas City Royals.
Other Options: Zack Wheeler ($7,700), Tanner Roark ($8,200), J.A. Happ ($8,000)
C: Yadier Molina ($3,500)
1B: Wil Myers ($4,800)
2B: Jed Lowrie ($4,500)
3B: Mike Moustakas ($4,200)
SS: Marcus Semien ($3,700)
I am jumping on the Oakland A’s bandwagon. Both Lowrie and Semien are hitting well over the last week. Semien has a home run in two of his last three games while Lowrie has 12 RBIs since April 14. They both hit against Cole Hamels, someone who hasn’t looked good all season.
While I am using Davies, I went with Moustakas as my third baseman. Someone has to get a hit for this team, right? With a homer in two of his last four, and at just $4,200, he’s the right price for a position suffering a lot of injuries.
I was debating between JT Realmuto and Molina at catcher. Realmuto is just coming back from injury and Molina is playing very well. Plus, Molina is $200 cheaper. Why not save a few bucks for the more consistent option.
Myers is back from injury and he’s welcomed with a series in Colorado. Kyle Freeland is starting for the Rockies. He hasn’t pitched more than six innings and has a 5.85 ERA. This is a good matchup for Myers and the rest of the Padres.
Other Options: Cody Bellinger ($4,500), DJ LeMahieu ($4,700), Trea Turner ($4,500)
OF: Christian Yelich ($4,700)
OF: Yoenis Cespedes ($4,100)
OF: Franchy Cordero ($3,900)
I’m surprised at how cheap the outfielders are. The elite options are going to be over $5,000 but you can get a couple of second-tier players and a fourth tier to round out your outfielder. Yelich and Cespedes are the second-tier outfielders with Cordero being the cheap pick.
Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers face Ian Kennedy and the Royals. Kennedy started the season with three straight quality starts but struggled against the Blue Jays in his last outing. With the Brewers offense at 100 percent, Yelich has the support he needs to perform.
Cespedes is slowly getting back his peak Cespedes. He is hitting .217 over the last seven games, increasing his season average to .195. I know this isn’t a piece for season-long fantasy baseball but this shows that you may want to add him into your lineup. Plus, a matchup against Luke Weaver could help.
Cordero is the other Padres hitter I’m using in my lineup. He’s averaging 9.3 points per game over his last 10. He has two home runs and five RBIs with no less than 14 points in his last three. At just $3,900, Cordero is sleeper pick you want in your lineup.
Other Options: Teoscar Hernandez ($3,200), A.J. Pollock ($4,800), Andrew Benintendi ($4,400)
Next: Time to add Jeimer Candelario?
Whether you go with the 12-game or 11-game slate, you will have a good mix of star power and cheap fill-ins to construct your lineup. My lineup presents a perfect mix. I went cheap-ish with pitching in order to have solid options in my offense. It’s about finding the right matchup at the right price.
