Tampa Bay Rays: Trade Denard Span to the Texas Rangers

Denard Span is in his first season with the Tampa Bay Rays, and he has shown at times that he can still get it done in the field, and at the plate. Last season, he hit over .270 for the San Francisco Giants, and has a career batting average over .280.

While the Rays are not going to make a run, Span is the kind of player who can help a playoff contender get over the hump. One team that could be a nice landing spot for him is the Texas Rangers, who have to start digging themselves out of the hole they have created through the first 22 games.

Texas currently are dealing with a broken hand for Delino DeShields, and their depth in the outfield is lacking. Span is a guy who can come in and fill any of the three outfield spots, and has shown he can still play some centerfield.

This Rangers team is pretty solid, and injuries are really hurting them at this point. They have to do something to get out of the cellar, and injecting some veteran leadership in the clubhouse has never hurt anybody.

Span is still a very productive player, and with the Rangers, he could ease the void left by DeShields being on the DL.
