2. Boston Red Sox

For just the second time since 2000, the Red Sox aren’t at the top of this list. They do retain their perch atop the American League, however, with a total cost of $345.88. The Red Sox saw the largest drop in cost from 2017 out of all 30 MLB teams, as this year’s figure is over six percent smaller.

TMR attributes much of that drop to a change in the team’s parking configuration. In addition to cementing a new partnership with ParkWhiz, the Red Sox dropped parking fees to just $10 at adjacent garages. As a result, only three MLB franchises offer cheaper average parking prices than the Red Sox.

Keeping the total cost high, however are the Red Sox’s concession, merchandise and ticket prices. The Red Sox’s average general ticket price of $56.97 is topped only by the Cubs’ price and $24.53 more than the MLB average. It’s also an increase of 3.4 percent from 2017. The average premium ticket price of $186.86 ranks the Red Sox fourth in that category.

The Red Sox also offer fans the second-most expensive average beer price at $8. Their average soda and hot dog prices ($5.25 for each) rank third in the league, while the average souvenir cap price is tops in all of MLB at $25. That cap price is nearly eight dollars above the league average.

The Red Sox appear in these standings just ahead of the next team on the list, which is something they hope carries over to the on-field standings after 162 regular-season games.
