The west coast “blue blood” of the list is the USC Trojans. They’re the furthest west team that ranks highly among the elite and the only school in the Pac-12 Conference that makes the list of the greats.
With over a century under their belt as a program and plenty of winning in the process, the west coast belonged to USC for the longest time. 11 national championships and six Heisman winners (Reggie Bush vacated) have highlighted plenty of great seasons for the Trojans.
Along with 11 national championships, the Trojans have the most players of any program selected in the NFL Draft with 502. They are also the only program currently with over 500 players selected by the NFL.
Los Angeles has also seen their players go onto succeed in the NFL as well, and the school has produced the most Pro Football Hall of Famers with 12. And if all of that wasn’t enough, the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum has held many historic events in its time, including the Olympics.
One of the largest cities in the United States belongs to the Trojans, and they have had great wars with crosstown rival UCLA over the years. Howard Jones, John McKay and John Robinson each won over 100 games as head coach for the Trojans.
Pete Carroll would help lead the team to multiple national championships and saw one of the most dynamic teams led by Matt Leinart and Bush do great things. Rivalries with Notre Dame, Stanford and others pushed the Trojans to some of their greatest moments on the field.
