player. 67. . G. Oklahoma. Trae Young. 7

As I explained when I slotted Young in with Chicago in last week’s mock draft, the best teams have multiple ball-handlers. And the very best, championship-caliber teams have capable play-makers at nearly every position. In Golden State, it’s Draymond Green opposite Steph Curry and Kevin Durant. For Houston, James Harden and Chris Paul. Cleveland was at its best when LeBron James was flanked by Kyrie Irving, and now Irving himself has Al Horford and Jayson Tatum in Boston to balance things out. Young and De’Aaron Fox are an interesting pairing through that prism.

Fox was somewhat turnover prone and largely inefficient during his rookie season, doing little to overturn the idea that he would need supplementary scoring on his team in the NBA. The lightning bug has the skill to finish against rim protection and find open teammates, but he is much better in a role that allows him to lock down on defense and take only easy shots.

Fortunately, if Young falls, Sacramento has the opportunity to find that partner for Fox. Looking at Young’s 37.1 percent usage and 48.5 percent assist rate, you realize just how involved he was possession-to-possession at Oklahoma. Fox would provide some needed balance for him as well.

The frontcourt is a work in progress, and the Kings owe their pick to Boston next year, but Young is easily the best prospect available at this point and would give the Kings some dynamism they missed last season.
