2018 NBA Mock Draft: Where do Doncic, Ayton and Bagley land?
As I mentioned last week, I think Khyri Thomas has risen in consensus recently, and looks exactly like the Patrick Beverley archetype teams covet these days. That means someone with potentially higher value like Alkins could slip into the hands of a contender.
The Warriors will some day need to think about replacing Andre Iguodala, despite his 3-year contract. As it stands now, they really don’t have a backup wing who could fill his role for the next version of this Golden State squad. Alkins is not in Iguodala’s orbit as a passer or play-maker, but he can shoot and defend at a high level. His strength and quickness could allow him to defend four positions in the NBA, despite not being as tall as Iguodala either.
The stars are in place for Golden State, but their bench is a weakness. Can you see Jordan Bell, Patrick McCaw and Quin Cook being sure-thing backups for a championship team in two years? Maybe — but finding role players like Alkins could insulate the roster a little better going forward as the Warriors look to win championships Nos. 3, 4, 5, 6.
