4. Mike Gesicki, TE, Penn State

Only one tight end was drafted in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and it was South Carolina’s Hayden Hurst. That means that heading into Round 2, Penn State’s Mike Gesicki is, on many people’s boards, the best tight end left in this year’s class.

What does Gesicki offer fantasy owners in terms of upside that Dallas Goedert doesn’t? The size to be an unstoppable red-zone target, for one. At six-foot-six and 247 pounds with the same size hands as Goedert, Gesicki can win against defenders nearly every time. His former basketball success demonstrates that leaping ability.

Now, NFL teams may not value Gesicki as highly as Goedert because he’s not going to be an effective inline blocker at the NFL level. But fantasy owners need not concern themselves with that aspect of this game; as far as they’re concerned, Gesicki is a huge pass-catching weapon who is like another wide receiver out on the field. In 2017, Gesicki put a bow on his career with the Nittany Lions with 57 receptions for 563 yards and nine touchdowns.
