3. Christian Kirk, WR, Texas A&M

There wasn’t quite the run on wide receivers that we might have expected in Round 1, as only Maryland’s D.J. Moore and Alabama’s Calvin Ridley were selected (by the Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons, respectively). Atlanta’s selection, in particular, was surprising, as wide receiver was not a position may pegged them targeting in the first round.

But the omissions we saw at the pass-catcher position in Round 1 simply mean that some lucky teams in Round 2 are going to get a top-32 player for a top-64 price — and for savvy fantasy owners, there are going to be even more late-round and dynasty league options at the position in this year’s drafts.

Texas A&M’s Christian Kirk has done something that should make NFL general managers and fantasy owners alike very happy — in his career with the Aggies, he was on the receiving end of targets from six different quarterbacks. That proves Kirk can produce even if he’s drafted by a team with a less-than-stellar quarterback — though, of course, general managers might also assume that he benefited from a Texas A&M spread system.

Kirk’s final season at A&M was his best, with 71 receptions for 919 yards and 10 scores. But he was in the neighborhood of 1,000 yards in all three of his seasons.
