No, Derrius Guice didn’t fall because he wants to kneel for the anthem

Derrius Guice’s draft stock took a sharp nose on Day 2 but it wasn’t because he said he’d kneel during the anthem.

Beware the fake Twitter accounts. In this era of fake news, it’s critical to make sure news sources are vetted and properly identified. Usually, this is something that flares up close to trade deadlines (beware the fake Woj Bombs), but it happened during the NFL Draft this weekend as well.

As LSU running back Derrius Guice slipped down the draft board, everyone was wondering why such a highly rated prospect wasn’t being selected.

That’s where the fake account comes into play.

A fake Adam Schefter account tweeted out that the reason Guice was falling had to do with him telling teams that he’d kneel during the national anthem even if it meant being blackballed. Simply put, that’s not true.

Nothing had come up about this beforehand but all it took was a couple of people to bite on the hoax for it to become a real thing.

It’s a fake account. It’s a fake story. It’s not true.

A more likely reason for Guice falling came from a report Todd McShay threw out that he was late to pre-draft meetings.

Accountability issues are the unofficial official reason that Guice is slipping down the draft board. That’s enough of a real-world problem to sink his stock, but it has nothing to do with him saying he’d kneel for the anthem.

Guice made headlines when he claimed NFL teams asked homophobic questions during his Combine interviews. The league investigated and found no evidence of such a thing happening, and that too has been labeled a reason why he’s falling.

Whatever the reason for Guice’s draft slide, it has nothing to do with him saying anything about kneeling for the anthem.
