DraftKings MLB Picks April 27: Is deGrom better than Kluber?

The Cubs and Brewers are playing a matinee at Wrigley, so that one is only available in showdown. However, in what is somewhat of a rarity, the other 14 games are in the main slate. We have seen all kinds of slates chopped up. Now we will get a look at a really full one. There are plenty of places to build, so let’s check some past stats for some help getting started.

Pittsburgh is the only game threatened by rain right now, but it’s only 50%. Boston could be delayed, but the game should be played The wind is mostly calm except for Minneapolis, where they will be battling a crosswind.

We will provide you with several options to build your lineup here. Want to spend all your money on pitchers and play bargain bats? We will highlight who is worth the money. Want to punt arms and pay up for the big boppers? We can help you with that as well, and everything in between!

These tips are based mostly on past performance. This is a nice tool for building a lineup, but should not be the only pieces of information you use. Stacking against a bad pitcher is always a good idea!

CLEVELAND, OH – APRIL 9: Starting pitcher Corey Kluber #28 of the Cleveland Indians pitches during the first inning against the Detroit Tigers at Progressive Field on April 9, 2018 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Jason Miller/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Corey Kluber ($12,900): Kluber is the highest priced pitcher we have out there, but his numbers aren’t all that dominant. The Mariners are hitting .224 with four homers and eight runs in 125 at bats. Those numbers are about what you would like, but the 32 strikeouts is a notch below elite. The Mariners aren’t that free swinging of a team, so Kluber could have a tougher time breaking 20 tonight.

Jacob deGrom ($12,400): The Padres are hitting a decent .234 against deGrom, but they only have one homer and two runs in 64 at bats to go with 18 strikeouts. There is the potential for a dominant outing from deGrom. I’m not sure there is with anyone else in this slate.

Hyun-Jin Ryu ($11,100): The Giants are hitting a solid .254 against Ryu in 122 at bats, but they only have two homers and nine runs. However, Ryu only has 18 strikeouts. That makes this price a lot harder to swallow. I want huge strikeout upside with my five digits salary, thank you.

Luis Severino ($10,400): The Angels are only hitting .200 in 40 at bats against Severino with a homer, three runs, and 11 strikeouts. That’s a good start to his career against the Angels. There is power in this lineup, but Severino should get enough strikeouts to mitigate the damage.

Middle Tier:

Dallas Keuchel ($8,800): The A’s are another team that hits lefties pretty well, so there is some risk here. the A’s are hitting a solid .257 against Keuchel, but they only have two homers and 11 runs in 136 at bats. The striking number here is the fact that Keuchel only has 23 strikeouts. I don’t see a dominant outing from Keuchel here, but there is potential.

Zack Godley ($8,400): The Nationals are hitting a robust .302 against Godley in 43 at bats, but they have just two solo homers and 17 strikeouts to show for it. The high strikeout potential has kept Godley out of trouble here, but there is still risk involved with that many runners getting on. He wont be lucky forever.

Sean Manaea ($8,400): No, Manaea isn’t here because he threw a no hitter last start. There is merit to this. The Astros are only hitting .222 in 135 at bats against Manaea with three homers, ten runs, and 32 strikeouts. Those are really good numbers. Of course, this is the Astros, so I don’t have to tell you what kind of risk is involved, but how many of us thought this lefty could toss a no hitter against a hot Boston team?

Tyler Anderson ($7,700): It’s hard to ignore the current Marlins 2-13 status against Anderson. It is perhaps even harder to ignore his staggering home/road splits. It’s not like it normally is for a Rockies pitcher. Anderson’s ERA is nearly two runs higher away from Coors Field. Miami is a very pitcher friendly park, but Anderson seems to like hitter’s parks. Still, there isn’t much pop in this lineup. This is one of the few road venues I would use Anderson in.

Drew Pomeranz ($7,500): Pomeranz doesn’t have great numbers against the Rays, but when you take out the numbers of bench player Brad Miller, the rest of the team is just 7-47(.149) with a homer, four runs, and ten strikeouts. If Miller isn’t in the starting nine, I would throw Pomeranz out there if it looks like they can get the game in in Boston.

Bargain Pitchers:

Julio Teheran ($6,500): Here is the portion of the program where we test your intestinal fortitude. Teheran is about as inconsistent as they come, but the Phillies are only hitting .217 against him in 161 at bats with four homers, 12 runs, and 41 strikeouts. That’s a good strikeout rate, and shows that he gets out of trouble against the Phillies. On top of that, Teheran is 6-2 with a 2.77 ERA in eight career starts in Citizens Bank Park. He should be a lot more expensive than he is.

Mike Minor ($5,900): The Blue Jays are only hitting .236 against Minor in 55 at bats with three homers, five runs, and a staggering 17 strikeouts. With Josh Donaldson still out, this team lacks power. They have some against lefties though, so there is inherent risk here. However, if Minor can keep up the strikeouts, we can handle him giving up a couple of homers.

DraftKings
PHOENIX, AZ – APRIL 21: Paul Goldschmidt #44 of the Arizona Diamondbacks hits an RBI triple during the seventh inning of the MLB game against the San Diego Padres at Chase Field on April 21, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. The Arizona Diamondbacks won 6-2. (Photo by Jennifer Stewart/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Paul Goldschmidt is 5-16 with two walks, two doubles, a steal, two runs, and three RBI in his career against Stephen Strasburg. If Alex Avila gets the start, he is definitely worth a look. Avila’s only hit in three at bats against Strasburg is a grand slam.

Rhys Hoskins is 4-9 with two walks, three doubles, a steal, and two RBI so far in his career against Julio Teheran. Maikel Franco is 10-33(.303) with a walk, two doubles, five runs, and a RBI against Teheran. There is decent potential for the price.

A Rockies stack may even be in order on the road tonight against Jose Urena. Nolan Arenado is 3-10 with two homers and five RBI off of Urena already. Chris Iannetta is 1-2 with a solo homer off of Urena.

Freddie Freeman is 6-19(.316) with four walks, two doubles, a homer, three runs, and four RBI in his career against Aaron Nola. Nola has faced the Braves twice this year already, and despite overall good numbers, Nola only has 24.2 DraftKings points in two starts against the Braves this year. You can do better than that for his price.

Middle Tier:

The White Sox have destroyed Danny Duffy so far. Jose Abreu is 16-45(.356) with four walks, two doubles, two homers, five runs, and five RBI off of Duffy so far. Matt Davidson is 3-7 with a walk, a double, and a solo homer. Yolmer Sanchez is 10-26(.385) with two walks, two doubles, a triple, three runs, and three RBI against Duffy.

Miguel Cabrera is 6-20 with three walks, two doubles, a homer, a run, and six RBI in his career against Chris Tillman. I’m to the point where I wont stack against Tillman, but using a player with stats like this can be beneficial.

We need to stack Mets tonight. They are hitting .411 in 90 at bats against Clayton Richard.. Todd Frazier is 4-5 with a double, a homer, and three runs scored against Richard. Adrian Gonzalez is 11-20 with a walk, a run, and five RBI. That’s right, no extra base hits. Lefty killer Wilmer Flores is unfortunately only eligible at 1B, but he is 2-5 with a walk and two solo homers against Richard.

Buster Posey is 9-28(.321) with four walks, three doubles, a homer, six runs, and three RBI in his career against Huyn-Jin Ryu.

Marcus Stroman has been a disaster so far this year. Despite his solid career numbers against Boston, Texas, I would much rather use Rangers against him. You can start with Joey Gallo, who is 1-3 with two walks, a double, and two RBI against Stroman already. If you are looking for a cheap catcher, Robinson Chirinos only has one hit in four at bats, but it is a solo homer.

Yangervis Solarte is 4-9 with a homer and two RBI so far against Mike Minor. Solarte has proven to be a thorn to lefties. Look for that to keep up.

Alex Bregman and Evan Gattis are reasonably priced, and are two of the few Astros that have looked good against Sean Manaea so far. Bregman is 2-10 with three walks, a solo homer, and a steal against Manaea. Gattis is 5-18(.278) with two doubles, a homer, a steal, and four RBI.

As a team, the Indians have seven homers in 75 at bats against Erasmo Ramirez. Edwin Encarnacion has two of them, but is just 4-20 lifetime against Ramirez. Yonder Alonso is 6-9 with two doubles and a RBI, but no homers yet. Yan Gomes has one, but it is his only hit in six at bats against Erasmo.

Mike Moustakas is only 2-9 against Reynaldo Lopez, but both of those hits are solo homers.

Matt Chapman is 2-4 with a walk, a double, a homer, and two RBI so far against Dallas Keuchel. Jonathan Lucroy is 3-6 with a double, two runs, and a RBI.

Something tells me Blake Snell may not be all that upset if this game is rained out. Hanley Ramirez is 4-9 with two walks, two runs, and a RBI against Snell. Sandy Leon is 4-8 with two walks and four runs scored. Don’t worry, there is power to be had as well, just not here.

Eugenio Suarez is back, and he is also 1-3 with a solo homer against Phil Hughes in his career.

Bargain Shoppers:

The Orioles value didn’t come through last night, but they are on here again. Chris Davis is only 1-4 against Mike Fiers, but he has walked twice and hit a solo homer. Danny Valencia is 4-11 with three walks and two solo homers against Fiers. Pedro Alvarez is just 3-17(.176) against Fiers, but two of those three hits are homers and he has driven in four.

If Matt Adams starts in left again, he is worth a look. He has one of the two solo homers for Washington against Zack Godley.

Jedd Gyorko is 2-4 with a RBI so far against Steven Brault. This is a pitcher’s park, but Gyorko has a lot of power and hits lefties hard. You can do a lot worse for $3,200.

WASHINGTON, DC – APRIL 08: Trea Turner #7 of the Washington Nationals hits an RBI single, scoring Bryce Harper (not pictured) in the fifth inning against the New York Mets at Nationals Park on April 8, 2018 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Trea Turner has the other solo homer against Godley, and he has the added benefit of hitting leadoff. You know, just in case the Nationals finally break through against Godley.

Jose Altuve is just 4-20 against Sean Manaea, but he does have a solo homer off of him. How many lefties does Altuve have trouble with? Not many, that’s for sure.

Yoan Moncada doesn’t have much history against Danny Duffy, but I want him in my White Sox stack. Tim Anderson is a good pick as well. Anderson is 8-22(.364) with a homer, four runs, and two RBI off of Duffy.

Trevor Story is only 1-5 in his career against Jose Urena, but that hit is a three run homer.

Middle Tier:

Paul DeJong is definitely worth a look with a lefty on the hill. He is 1-2 with a RBI single against Steven Brault so far. There is likely lots more where that came from.

It’s old news that Jed Lowrie clobbers lefties. Lowrie is 12-41(.293) with three doubles, four runs, and three RBI so far against Dallas Keuchel.

Asdrubal Cabrera is 7-13 with four doubles, a steal, three runs, and four RBI against Clayton Richard.

A few Mariners have good numbers against Corey Kluber. Cano is one of them. Cano is 5-17(.294) with two walks, three doubles, two runs, and a RBI. Those are decent numbers when you consider the price decrease Cano gets for facing an ace.

Ian Kinsler is 3-10 with a double, two runs, and a solo homer off of Luis Severino so far. No other Angel has really hit Severino hard enough to consider, but it is worth noting that Mike Trout has never faced him.

Jason Kipnis is 5-12 with a double, two solo homers, and three runs against Erasmo Ramirez. Francisco Lindor has also homered against Ramirez, but it is his only hit in eight tries.

Whit Merrifield is 3-9 with a walk, a triple, two runs, and a RBI against Reynaldo Lopez. Alcides Escobar is a decent punt. Escobar is 2-8 with a solo homer off of Lopez.

Bargain Shoppers:

Sean Rodriguez is one of only four Pirates to face Miles Mikolas. His only hit in three at bats is a two run homer. If he starts, Rodriguez is worth a look. It also may be worth stacking Pirates against Mikolas with his struggles early this year.

Jurickson Profar is a dirt cheap starter that is perfect in his career against Marcus Stroman. In three plate appearances against Stroman, Profar has a walk, a single, a double, and a RBI.

Scooter Gennett is cheap, and he is 2-3 with two doubles and two runs off of Phil Hughes already. This Twins-Reds game could be a sneaky place to stack either side. Depending on what you think of Luis Castillo, he could be an interesting GPP pick.

Kike Hernandez, another lefty killer, is still eligible at 2B. He is 1-2 with a RBI double so far against Derek Holland. This could be a night to throw some Dodger righties out there and see what sticks.

J.P. Crawford is 3-7 against Julio Teheran already, but he has no counting stats.

Here’s something you don’t see every day: Brad Miller smashing a lefty. Miller is 10-19(.526) with two walks, two doubles, a triple, a homer, four runs, and six RBI in his career against Drew Pomeranz. If this game isn’t rained out, Miller could be a huge value play.

FanDuel MLB: WASHINGTON, DC – APRIL 14: Charlie Blackmon #19 of the Colorado Rockies hits a two-run home run in the first inning against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park on April 14, 2018 in Washington, DC. (Photo by Patrick McDermott/Getty Images) /

Top Tier:

Mookie Betts is only 3-13(.231) against Blake Snell, but he has a walk, a double, a homer, three runs, and four RBI off of him. Andrew Benintendi is 3-9 with a walk and three RBI.

Charlie Blackmon is 4-9 with three walks, a double, and three runs against Jose Urena so far. Gerardo Parra is only 1-3, but the hit is a solo homer.

Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton against a lefty? I don’t care what park the game is in, both of them are worth a look against Andrew Heaney. You could sprinkle in Gary Sanchez for good measure.

More from FanSided

Middle Tier:

Nelson Cruz is 7-25(.280) with three doubles, two homers, and three RBI in his career against Corey Kluber. Ben Gamel is really cheap, and he is 1-3 with a walk and a two run homer against Kluber. Mitch Haniger is already 5-7 against Kluber, but has no counting stats.

David Peralta is 4-7 with a solo homer and two runs against Stephen Strasburg. Can he stay hot against one of the best pitchers in the early going?

Leonys Martin is off to a good start anyway, and he is 4-12 with a homer, three runs, and two RBI in his career against Chris Tillman.

Bargain Shoppers:

I wouldn’t stack against Nola. He is still pitching well, but almost all of the damage has been done by two Braves. The first is Freeman. The other is Nick Markakis. Markakis is only 5-22(.227) against Nola, but he has two walks, two homers, and four RBI. Ender Inciarte could be worth a look as well. Inciarte is 6-23(.261) with a double, a steal, and three runs.

Only one White Sox outfielder has hit Danny Duffy hard, and it’s likely not who you think it is. Adam Engel is 5-8 with a double, two triples, two runs, and a RBI against Duffy so far. He is a great cheap option if he is in the starting lineup.

There are a lot of Blue Jays righties that hit lefties well. Kevin Pillar is 1-2 with a triple against Mike Minor so far. Steve Pearce is 3-5 with a walk, a homer, and two RBI. Even Curtis Granderson has got in on the action. Granderson is 4-15(.267) with a homer and two RBI.

Gorkys Hernandez hits lefties well, so he may be in the lineup against Hyun-Jin Ryu. If he is, $2,600 could go a long way. Hernandez is 2-4 with a double and a run.
