The Utah Jazz look to bounce back from a crushing Game 5 loss to close out their series against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

A day removed from Game 5 between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Utah Jazz. And the world still isn’t quite sure what happened.

Up 3-1 in the series, the Jazz built a 25-point lead early in the third quarter. The first 28 minutes of the game looked like a repeat of Games 3 and 4. Utah got any open three they wanted. Russell Westbrook looked unsure of himself. Paul George was Regular P. The Jazz could do nothing wrong. The Thunder could do nothing.

Down 25, at home, with their season on the line. Westbrook entered an alternate state of basketball fire and fury reserved for only him. Alone, he outscored Utah 33-28 in the final 20 minutes. With George and his teammates beside him, Oklahoma City finished the game on a 61-28 run. George and Westbrook scored or assisted on all 61 points.

It was a gut punch for the Jazz. Through four and a half games, they have been the better team. They had a chance to empathically end the Thunder season, sending them into an offseason of uncertainty, while advancing to the second round to meet the Houston Rockets.

They didn’t.

Now, they return to Utah, still up 3-2, but reeling following Wednesday’s loss.

Rudy Gobert getting into foul trouble helped sparked the Thunder run to close Game 5. Part of that was a poor whistle from referee’s who have been bad all season. The other part was Westbrook and company attacking without the fear they had exhibited in the first four games. Carmelo Anthony sitting on the bench helped the Thunder as well. His brick layering offense allowed Westbrook and George to play in rhythm.

The odds still favor the Jazz. They have every reason to be confident heading home. Oklahoma City has failed to gain any traction in both games in Utah. Donovan Mitchell told a Thunder fan after the game, “We’ll see ya’ll next year.”

He’ll have a chance to make good on that promise in Game 6.
