It focuses on ancient Mayan locales
Although my hour of gameplay took place in Mexico, all signs are pointed towards Central America and the northern parts of South America, including Peru. The search for a Chal Chet dagger alongside a silver lockbox brings the organization Trinity searching through Brazil to start the game, with the expanded reveal trailer hinting at the apocalyptic end of the world in ancient Mayan locations.
This allows the developers to play around with historical context and mythology to help Shadow of the Tomb Raider lean into their own fictionalized realizations of legendary societies while highlighting Lara’s desire to right the wrongs that Trinity has caused to her and her family.
However, as she starts involving herself with ancient artifacts that she doesn’t have the full story about, we will start to see how nature will bring vengeance to those who tamper with ancient traditions. Lara needs not only to stop Trinity in their tracks but to do so in a way that absolves her potential sins illustrated in our demo, including touching something she shouldn’t have.
