The Detroit Tigers are in the middle of a lengthy rebuild, and Miguel Cabrera is the light during these dark times.
Rebuilding is not fun for fans, let alone Detroit Tiger ones. The fans have been spoiled with pennant after pennant, and now the club is reduced to almost nothing. Unfortunately, that’s how it goes these days in the MLB. Teams have a five year or so window, and then they tear it down. Detroit in a way were kicking themselves because of how bad their farm system used to be.
Now, franchises need a great system to stay in contention for the long run. With that said, the Tigers are going to go through hell and back this time. One guy who’s been a staple through it all is future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera. This guy has been with the team for 10 years now, and he has been the face of the franchise for most of it.
He’s mashed 463 home runs so far, so 500 isn’t out of the question. Although he is 35, Cabrera still has some pop when healthy. That’s a big factor nowadays for Cabrera as well as the legendary Albert Pujols. Unfortunately for Miggy, he’s on the outside looking in when it comes to team contention. His mammoth contract will hinder him in finding a new team, as no one wants any part of those dollar signs.
Next: Which of these teams are just posers?
Miggy means a lot to the city of Detroit. He is an icon and a future HoF, and arguably one of the best hitters in the modern era. The Tigers should keep him on the team until he cant move a muscle. Through these horrible times for Tigers fans, he is the lighthouse they can draw from for nostalgia and as a farewell for this era of Tigers baseball.
He will be passing on the torch very soon, so it is best to enjoy it while it lasts. Cabrera is forever a Tiger and we need to remember what he did for this franchise.
Hopefully, he gets lucky enough to win a World Series ring.
