Third base, high-end spend

Christian Villanueva, $3,700

N/A

The price could be about $800 higher and I would still be at least interested in Villanueva. At $3,700, it’s really hard to turn away from tonight. Jason Vargas is making his first start of the season and you never know what you’ll get in that scenario. Even if he’s at his best, Villanueva needs to be played against lefties, period. Let’s list off the numbers against southpaws, keeping in mind it’s only 27 plate appearances in 2018 – .480 batting average, 1.759 OPS, .760 ISO and a .724 wOBA. If you’re new to baseball, those numbers are borderline impossible to achieve. Even at this early hour, Villanueva is just about a full-on lock for me.

Mid-Range

Yolmer Sanchez, $3,100

N/A

The White Sox third baseman is usually not all that interesting for daily fantasy but I’m perfectly fine attacking Eric Skoglund in any way we can today. Sanchez hit lefties just fine, even if the power potential isn’t totally there. Sanchez is making hard contact over 38 percent of the time but he’s also hitting a ground ball almost 70 percent of the time, which isn’t normal for him. If he can turn some of those ground balls into fly balls, the home runs could start coming with some frequency. Skoglund is giving up a ton of hard contact and a lot of fly balls so it could be a big day for the White Sox.

Value

This is another spot where scraping the bottom of the barrel might do more harm than good. There’s just not a lot to pick from but one of the only options could be Luis Valbuena at $2,400 could at least have some potential. He faces Masahiro Tanaka, who is known to give up some home runs when things aren’t going well. It’s still tough to get away from Villanueva.
