League leaders Juventus travel to the San Siro on Saturday, April 28 to take on Inter Milan. Here’s what to know before you tune in.

After last Sunday’s 1-0 knockout-punch loss to Napoli, Juventus return to league action with a road match against Inter Milan. Both teams have a lot on the line going into this game: Juventus need the points to stay ahead of Napoli, who are just a point behind them, while Inter Milan are still in the hunt for a spot in next season’s Champions League.

The defeat to Napoli and Juve’s inability to generate any offense at home raised eyebrows. Manager Massimiliano Allegri’s negative approach backfired against a Napoli side in search of a win. The Bianconeri can’t make the same mistake twice. Otherwise, they will face another loss to a Inter Milan team that has also shown they can be explosive offensively.

“It was a head-to-head clash and Napoli did what they had to do, they kept the ball better and so congratulations to them for that,” Allegri told reporters after the loss. “Now, for us, Saturday’s match against Inter is the really decisive one. We still lead the championship, we have two games at home and two away, but the decisive one will be in Milan. Now we have to get over this defeat and get back to work immediately.”

With four matchdays left in the season, Juve need the three points to stay ahead of Napoli, who play Sunday on the road against Fiorentina. Fifth-place Inter Milan, meanwhile, have already secured at least a Europa League spot for next season, but will be looking to win in order to catch up to Roma and Lazio, both tied for third place, and just a point ahead of the Nerazzurri.

Inter Milan’s Sporting Director Piero Ausilio said his club will battle for a Champions League spot until the end.

“[Luciano] Spalletti is our present and our future, regardless of where we finish,” he told the club’s official website. “The final matches will be important because they could allow us to continue on our journey and securing Champions League football would be wonderful. Beyond the financial side of things, Inter must always aim for the top European competition because of the prestige but the team has improved in a lot of different ways thanks to the work from the coach and his staff. This year, lots of things have been done well and we can obviously improve further but solid foundations have been built.”

Both Juventus and Inter Milan control their own fate, which should translate into a competitive match. Juve will need to dump their conservative tactics, something that plagued them against Napoli, and play to win. Inter Milan will need to do the same. The urgency to grab all three points is what will ultimately make this a contest worth watching.

There are a few issues to hammer out for both teams, most notably with Juve. Allegri will need to motivate his playmaker, Paulo Dybala, who looked poor last Sunday and only played a half. At the same time, Allegri will have to deal with the absence of defender Giorgio Chiellini, who injured his hamstring early against Napoli and will miss Saturday’s game.

Inter Milan, on the other hand, will be without Atalanta loanee Roberto Gagliardini. The midfielder has been out with a hamstring injury for the past two weeks. Other than that, Spalletti’s side are healthy and prepared to do battle.

As two of the biggest clubs in the country in terms of fans, Inter Milan-Juventus has featured some epic matches in the past. Juve’s 9-1 win in 1961 represents the largest margin of victory ever between the sides.

The game, first contested in 1909, has been contested 196 times in Serie A. Juve hold the all-time edge with 88 wins, Inter have 58 and the game has ended in a draw 50 times. The chances are good the sides, both wanting a win, could end up with a draw that helps no one but Napoli.
